ABOUT Carson Dunlop

Carson Dunlop is a company that provides home inspection services, software and training to professional Home Inspectors. They have been a leader in the home inspection field for 40 years.

The Illustrated Home is a book published by Carson Dunlop with over 1,700 full color illustrations of house styles, construction details and systems components. Carson Dunlop partnered with Leanne Kroll to update the book with current house details and to provide new content for systems that were new to house designs, such as solar panels on roofs. Various completed projects include:

  • – Technical illustration cutaway views
  • – Revisions to existing drawing details
  • – New technical illustrations of plumbing, heating, electrical systems
  • – Updates and new house appliance illustrations
  • – New complex flow drawings of boiler systems
  • Project Challenge

With such a large scope of work, Carson Dunlop heavily relied on Leanne Kroll to manage the project efficiently by meeting timelines throughout. The revisions to original illustrations required a fine eye for detail in order to minimize the back and forth between illustrator and client. Establishing a process of communication for illustration briefing and reviews was key.

    Project Solution

We broke the project into smaller pieces over time and to date have completed approx. 350 new and revised illustrations for The Illustrated Home. Working with the various sections of the book allowed us to complete one section first before proceeding with the next. All illustrations have common elements such as size, font, line weight and the new illustrations were required to match the older illustrations for consistency in style.

“We have been very pleased with the work that Leanne has completed for us on all types of technical illustrations for The Illustrated Home. She is efficient with very complex detailed illustrations and is able to manage a large workload. She enhances our work by being so easy to work with!”
